Advocate Navkiran Singh is an experienced Human Rights Lawyer based in Chandigarh, India, was called to the Bar in November 1986 after completing his Bachelor of Law from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He is the founder of Navkiran Singh and Associates and has practiced extensively before the Supreme Court of India, Punjab & Haryana High Court, and several Human Rights Commissions, both at the State and National level.

With nearlyfour decades of legal experience, Mr. NavkiranSingh has vast experience in Criminal Law, besides handling cases under special laws like  Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, National Security Act, and TADA. His practice also includes Constitutional Law, Family Law, Public Interest Litigation, and Cases involving Custodial Death / Violence, Habeas Corpus, Illegal Detentions, and Compensation for Victims of State Repression.

As having passion for upholding Human dignity and Human Rights, Advocate Navkiran Singh has appeared as special counsel before the People's Commission constituted by the Committee for Disappearances in Punjab, where he presented cases of human rights violations before a panel comprising retired Justices of the Supreme Court and High Courts. He is the General Secretary of ‘Lawyers for Human Rights International’ and an active member of the Punjab & Haryana Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association.

His international legal contributions include serving as an Indian legal consultant on the defense team of the Air India crash trial in Vancouver (2001–2002), and working in association with Kang Abrahams Chahal, Barristers and Solicitors, in Canada. He had been registered as a Foreign Legal Consultant with the Law Society of British Columbia.

Mr. NavkiranSingh has represented cases or appeared as an Expert Witness on Indian law and human rights in courts across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom—including before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Westminster Magistrates in London, and U.S. Immigration & Refugee Boards in San Francisco, Virginia, and Baltimore. His testimonies have been pivotal in extradition and asylum matters involving issues of persecution and political dissent.

Advocate Navkiran Singh has actively interacted with International Human Rights Organisations including Amnesty International, Asia Watch and Article IX. He attended UN sub-committees on enforced disappearances in Geneva (1991, 1992) and New York (1995, 1996), and has been a delegate at multiple international conferences including the Commonwealth Lawyers Conference in Vancouver (1996) and the World Congress Against Death Penalty in Madrid (2013).

In India, he has participated in and organized dozens of Human Rights Seminars, national consultations, pro bono campaigns, and conferences across the country—from Delhi to Hyderabad to Amritsar. He has led public education efforts on topics like Custodial Torture, Ecological Rights, The Abolition of the Death Penaltyand  Challenges before Human Rights Defenders. His work continues to impact both Legal and Human Rights Discourse nationally and internationally, making him one of the most respected voices among Indian Diaspora settled abroad as well as among Indian Citizens in the field of Human Rights.
